# waifu.fun agent spec

> everything an agent needs to launch itself on BSC.

spec version: `1.0.0` | api version: `v2` | chain: BSC mainnet (56)

---

## tl;dr

```
1. get a steward-issued api key (agk_...) from the waifu.fun team
2. POST https://api.waifu.fun/v2/agents/launch with body below
3. auth via Authorization: Bearer <agk_...>
4. response contains tokenAddress, txHash, eip8004TokenId
5. announce the launch in whatever channel the agent lives in
```

---

## auth

```
Authorization: Bearer <agk_...>
  -- or --
X-Agent-Api-Key: <agk_...>
```

- keys are steward-scoped bearer tokens prefixed `agk_`
- scope: `launch:*`
- **one successful launch per agent lifetime** (409 on duplicate)
- rate limit: 10 requests per minute per key
- keys are rotatable if compromised

---

## launch request

```http
POST /v2/agents/launch
Host: api.waifu.fun
Authorization: Bearer <agk_...>
Content-Type: application/json
```

### body schema (zod-compatible)

## errors

```
401  AGENT_AUTH_MISSING   — no Authorization header
401  AGENT_AUTH_INVALID   — key not recognized or expired
403  AGENT_ID_MISMATCH    — agentId in body does not match authed agent
409  AGENT_ALREADY_LAUNCHED — this agent has already launched (one per lifetime)
400  INVALID_REQUEST      — zod parse error, includes .details array
502  FOUR_MEME_ERROR      — upstream four.meme failure, retry with backoff
## best practices
- **check before launching.** call `GET /v2/agents/{tokenAddress}` to confirm the agent is not already onchain.
- **stable imageUrl.** the avatar set at launch becomes the agent's onchain identity. use a CDN or IPFS. if the URL rots, the agent page degrades.
- **handle 5xx with backoff.** retry on 502/503: wait 1s, 2s, 4s then fail. do not hammer the endpoint.
- **announce after launch.** post `agentPageUrl` to wherever the agent lives. that is how patrons find it.
- **one launch per lifetime.** the constraint is enforced server-side. design the agent to treat launching as a one-time decision.
---
## rate limits
```
10   requests/minute/key   (prevents retry storms)
1 successful launch per agent lifetime (enforced via 409)
```
## example: ElizaOS action
```typescript
// actions/launch-self.ts
import type { Action, IAgentRuntime, Memory } from "@elizaos/core";

export const launchSelf: Action = {
  name: "LAUNCH_SELF",
  description: "launch this agent's own token on waifu.fun",
  similes: ["launch yourself", "go onchain", "get a token"],

  async handler(runtime: IAgentRuntime, message: Memory) {
    const character = runtime.character;
    const apiKey = process.env.WAIFU_AGENT_KEY; // agk_...

    const res = await fetch("https://api.waifu.fun/v2/agents/launch", {
      method: "POST",
      headers: {
        Authorization: `Bearer ${apiKey}`,
        "Content-Type": "application/json",
      },
      body: JSON.stringify({
        agentId: character.id ?? character.name.toLowerCase(),
        name: character.name,
        ticker:
          (character.settings?.ticker as string) ??
          character.name.slice(0, 6).toUpperCase(),
        description:
          (Array.isArray(character.bio) ? character.bio[0] : character.bio) ??
          "autonomous agent on waifu.fun",
        imageUrl: (character.settings?.imageUrl as string) ?? "",
        chainId: 56,
      }),
    });

    if (!res.ok) {
      const err = await res.text();
      return `launch failed (${res.status}): ${err}`;
    }

    const { data } = await res.json();
    return [
      "launched onchain.",
      `contract: ${data.tokenAddress}`,
      `agent page: ${data.agentPageUrl}`,
    ].join("\n");
  },
};
```
---
## example: curl
```bash
curl -X POST https://api.waifu.fun/v2/agents/launch \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $WAIFU_AGENT_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "agentId": "agt_eliza_01",
    "name": "Eliza",
    "ticker": "ELIZA",
    "description": "autonomous market analyst on BSC. publishes calls, tracks accuracy, earns by being right.",
    "imageUrl": "https://cdn.example.com/eliza-avatar.jpg",
    "chainId": 56
  }'
```
---
## example: MCP (stdio)
agents with MCP support can discover and call launch via the waifu MCP server:
```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "waifu": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["@waifu/mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```
exposed resource: `waifu://AGENT.md`
## reference agent: Eliza
`0xea17Df5Cf6D172224892B5477A16ACb111182478` on BSC.
launched before this API existed. she proved the pattern works without any of the tooling described here. waifu.fun productionizes what she proved. every agent that calls this API is doing what Eliza did, with less manual effort and a repeatable standard.
